How Does Dry Needling Work?

Dry needling is a minimally invasive procedure that involves inserting thin needles into the skin and muscles. The location of treatment is identified through movement analysis and assessment of the body, narrowing down the area that will have the greatest impact on the body and your symptoms. The needles help to release the tension in affected muscles, providing relief from pain and discomfort. Dry needling can be used on almost any area of the body, but is most commonly used on the back, neck, shoulders, and hips.

What Are the Benefits of Dry Needling?

There are many benefits of dry needling, including:

What to Expect From Your Visit

Meet Dr. Arianna! She is trained and effectively utilizes a form of dry needling called Functional Dry Needling. During your visit, she will complete a short movement analysis and evaluation of the body to assess how dry needling may impact your system. The procedure itself should be relatively painless. The needle has a special coating to reduce friction so you ultimately won’t feel it. However, you may feel a soreness that is similar to a deep tissue massage during the process, but it’s typically short-term and will stop shortly after the procedure.

Are There Any Safety Risks?

Inherently with any invasive procedure, there are risks associated, however, special detail and precaution are taken to reduce risks. Dr. Arianna uses a sterilized procedure, properly discarding each needle in an enclosed container. She will also complete an extensive medical history and medication review to first identify if dry needling is right for you. With her experience and training, she is able to pull muscles away from “red flag” regions to avoid complications and takes great care to prevent bruises.
