Thriving Through Menopause: What to Expect and How We Support You

Menopause is a natural transition that every woman experiences—yet it often comes with more questions than answers. But the truth is, you don’t have to navigate it on your own

With the right understanding and support, this transition can be a time of renewal, not just challenge. Our goal is to help you understand what’s happening in your body, share how we support women through this process, and connect you with trusted resources that empower you to feel your best.

Understanding the Phases of Menopause

Menopause isn’t a single moment—it’s a transition that unfolds in stages, each with its own rhythm, changes, and opportunities to connect with your bodies needs.

Perimenopause

This is the transition period, typically beginning in your 40s. Hormone levels—especially estrogen—start to fluctuate, which can cause irregular periods, hot flashes, disrupted sleep, or mood shifts. These changes can feel unpredictable, but they’re your body’s way of recalibrating.

Menopause

You’ve officially reached menopause after going 12 consecutive months without a period, usually around age 51. Estrogen levels drop more significantly at this stage, and symptoms may shift or intensify in new ways.

Postmenopause

Following menopause, with consistently lower estrogen levels, you might notice changes in tissue health, increased risk of incontinence, or differences in how your body metabolizes nutrients and maintains muscle tone. Understanding these changes helps us address them early and effectively.

Addressing What's Really Happening in Your Body

Behind the scenes, your body is working hard to maintain balance—and sometimes, it needs a little extra help.

One key player in hormone balance is your liver. This powerful organ helps detoxify excess estrogen, especially during times of fluctuation (like perimenopause) and decline (postmenopause). When the liver is overburdened, it can impact how smoothly your body adjusts. Supporting liver function is often a foundational part of our care and helps reduce symptoms tied to imbalance.

It’s also important to remember that estrogen isn’t only made in your ovaries. Other tissues—including your fat (adipose) tissue, adrenal glands, skin, brain, and even breast tissue—produce a form of estrogen called estradiol. Because of this, we look at the entire body’s movement and communication patterns when supporting hormonal health. Menopause isn’t just a reproductive transition—it’s a full-body conversation.

And since every body is different, hormonal shifts can show up in unique ways. That’s why our approach is hands-on, individualized, and attuned to your body’s specific needs. There’s no one-size-fits-all here—your care is guided by how your tissues and systems are responding in real time.

Pelvic Health: An Overlooked Piece

As estrogen declines, the pelvic floor can weaken, increasing the risk of incontinence or discomfort. While this is common—it's not inevitable. Focused pelvic support and therapeutic exercises can restore function, improve confidence, and enhance overall quality of life. Prioritizing pelvic health is vital in mitigating these symptoms and strengthening your body for lifelong wellness.

How We Support Hormonal Balance

Our work focuses on supporting the natural rhythm, or motility, of the body’s key endocrine organs—such as the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, pineal gland, thyroid, pancreas, uterus, and ovaries. These organs communicate constantly to regulate hormone levels, energy balance, and emotional wellbeing.

At Invincible, in Lakewood Colorado, our trained physical therapists can help to improve how these systems move and communicate, helping restore the body’s ability to find equilibrium—the result is a body that feels more balanced and resilient.
